Ripley Castle voted "one of the best stately homes in the country"
The Independent newspaper has voted Ripley Castle as one of fifty of the best stately homes in the country. We came sixth in the newspaper's listing and were also nominated as one of the top ten stately homes in the country with beautiful gardens.
Capability Brown laid out the grounds with lakes and walled gardens which now house the National Hyacinth and Tropical Planat collections. In the kitchen garden grow a remarkable selection of herbs and rare vegetables.
"We are thrilled to have been nominated in such a way," says Sir Thomas. "We do pride ourselves on our magnificent collections of flowers, plants and trees within the gardens. Visitors to the castle also thoroughly enjoy our amusing and informative tours of the castle which relate to a fascinating history of the many characters who have lived here over the years".
